AWARDS RAIN DOWN ON PENN STATE METEOROLOGISTS

Four Penn State meteorologists have earned awards for several service and educational projects from national organizations. Faculty members Paul Knight and Fred Gadomski received the 2003 Award for Outstanding Service by a Broadcasting Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society on Feb. 12 in Long Beach, Calif., for their work in hosting “Weather World.” For more information about the 15-minute, weeknight weather show that airs on three Pennsylvania PBS stations, visit http://www.ems.psu.edu/WeatherWorld/

Meanwhile, the University Continuing Education Association has selected a Penn State on-line course, METEO 101: Understanding Weather Forecasting, as the 2003 winner of the Meritorious Course Award for College Courses. METEO 101’s developers and instructors, David Babb and Lee Grenci, and Peter Rubba, director of academic programs for the World Campus, will receive the award next month in Chicago.
