EESI Centers
Center for Regional Integrated Regional Assessment
The Center for Integrated Regional Assessment originated in 1996 as an inter-college and inter-university community. Its purpose was to promote and facilitate scholarship, interdisciplinary research, and education in the Human Dimensions of Global Change at the regional level. CIRA successfully fulfilled its purpose.
CIRA Associates have pursued the scholarship of many interconnected themes, including:
- Human dimensions of local and regional environmental change;
- Vulnerability;
- Perceptions and behavior;
- Stakeholder interaction & outreach;
- Environmental hazards;
- Human dimensions of carbon.
CIRA is in the process of expanding its purpose to encompass a more expansive view of human-environment interactions and a larger community of Penn State scientists. In addition to its original purpose, the expanded CIRA will:
- Welcome all Penn Staters with human-environment interests;
- Facilitate interaction and collaboration among these scholars;
- Disseminate information on research and educational opportunities in human-environment studies.
