EESI Members to Offer Workshop on Ice Core Research

Three EESI scientists—Richard Alley, Sridhar Anandakrishnan, and Todd Sowers—will share their research on ice cores as part of a special workshop to be held at Penn State in conjunction with the 2008 AMQUA (American Quaternary Association) Biennial Meeting in June.

Scheduled for June 2 to June 4, the “Cutting Edge” workshop will provide hand-on exercises and labs for professors who teach undergraduate-level courses in archaeology, biology, environmental science and geology.

Alley will provide the keynote address as well as a special session on ice cores and climate change. Anandakrishnan will discuss ice sheets and ice cores, and Sowers will present information on gas bubble studies in ice cores.

This workshop is part of events for International Polar Year and is co-sponsored by the U.S. National Committee for Quaternary Research and the American Quaternary Association.

The Quaternary Period includes the last 2 million years of Earth history.
